An intensive weekend
of workshops for amatuer musicians. The orchestra studied movements
from Mendelssohn's "Scottish" symphony No. 3 and Mozart's
Flute Concerto in D (K314), with full orchestra rehearsals conducted
by James Lowe and sectionals with SCO musicians.

This was the first in a brand new series of concerts specially
designed for families, the Young Adventurer series.
Featuring a brand new commission from Swedish composer, Karen
Rehnkvist, When the Earth Sings was a spectacular and
beautiful retelling of the myth of Daphne and Apollo.

The East Ayrshire Primary Schools Choir performed a brand new
choral work by Huw Warren alongside a 9-piece ensemble of musicians
including SCO players, with Martin France on drums and Huw Warren
himself at the piano. This project was the result of a collaboration
between SCO Education and East Ayrshire Council, with financial
support from the Scottish Arts Council's Creative Links Commissioning
fund.

Now a well established event. The annual Scrapers & Tooters weekend is a chance for amateur musicians to work with a professional conductor and receive coaching from SCO musicians. This year the orchestra looked at Elgar's Cello Concerto and Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 5.
