In October 2002, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council Education Department, announced the appointment of Rory Boyle as the first ever Composer Laureate for Schools.
Composer Laureate for Schools is a three year project. Over the course of the period, it will involve:
- A city-wide professional development programme on inventing/composing for music teachers
- A city-wide series of Music Factory inventing days for Standard Grade/Higher Grade students.
- Three new works for young people to perform alongside members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
The project has its own website www.icompose.org which will provide resources outlining innovative approaches to composition and invention in the classroom, to benefit schools locally and nationally.
