The Scottish Chamber Orchestra has run a competition for schools
to coincide with its forthcoming family-friendly concert, The
Night Mail, the Sultan and the Devil’s Violin.
“This
is the Night Mail crossing the border, Bringing the cheque and
the postal order, Letters for the rich, letters for the poor,
The shop at the corner and the girl next door…”
(The Night Mail, read by Paul Rissmann)
And
indeed bringing more than 450 entries for
our Night Mail Competition for Schools!
We're
delighted to announce the winners of the competition, and show
you the designs which grabbed the judges' eyes:
Darren
Duffy
Annie Forbes
St
Joseph's Primary School, Blantyre
Bonaly Primary School, Edinburgh
The
judges commented: "The standard of entries received was extremely
high, and it was very difficult to pick just two winners from
over 450 entries. Darren and Annie's pictures stood out
- Annie's because it was so colourful and Darren's because his
innovative monochrome silhouette was unique amongst the designs
submitted."
Darren
and Annie have each won a family ticket for the Caledonian Sleeper
from Scotland to London (courtesy of concert sponsors First ScotRail),
one night's accommodation in the City Inn Westminster, a family
ticket for The Night Mail, the Sultan and the Devil's Violin
and an SCO goodie bag. They have also won a special
workshop for their class from SCO Principal 2nd Violin Claire
Sterling and SCO Education Fellow Matthew Studdert-Kennedy, and
a class pass for a return journey on First ScotRail. Congratulations
to Darren, Annie and their families - we hope they have a brilliant
break in London.
