Pre-concert Talks

Pre-concert talks feature regularly throughout the season. They are free to concert ticket holders, and give you the opportunity to meet some of our start artists for 2007 - 2008. The talks always begin at 6.30pm.

Adventurer - Classic meets Jazz

Edinburgh Queens Hall - Friday 16th November
Glasgow City Halls - Saturday 17th November

This concert features the UK premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's new piece, Concerto for bass/bass guitar. Sensational bassist John Patitucci takes the solo in this brand new piece.
Come to the pre-concert talk to hear Mark-Anthony Turnage in conversation with Svend Brown.

Adventurer - Winter Song
Glasgow City Halls - Friday 14th December
Edinburgh Queens Hall - Saturday 15th December

The premiere of Judith Weir's seasonally titled new work Winter Song marks this out as a must-hear concert. She may not seek public attention or capture the headlines, but she is constantly in demand worldwide and no-one can boast a finer back catalogue. Hear her talk about her new work at the pre-concert talk.

Great Contemporaries
Edinburgh Queens Hall - Thursday 10th January
Glasgow City Halls - Friday 11th January
Inverness Eden Court Theatre - Saturday 12th January (7.15pm)

This concert features music by Mendelssohn, Spohr and Beethoven conducted by Andrew Manze. Andrew Manze, who will be talking about the programme in his pre-concert talk, is one of today's most passionate and articulate advocates of early music. As a violinist he specialises in repertoire from 1610 to 1830. As a conductor, Manze is in great demand among period and modern-instrument orchestras around the world. He also teaches, edits and writes about music as well as broadcasting regularly on radio and television. You may know him as a presenter of BBC radio's Early Music Show.

Adventurer - Walker conducts Beamish
Glasgow City Halls - Friday 18th January
Edinburgh Queens Hall - Saturday 19th January

The SCO celebrates its passion for new music in this concert. Sally Beamish's new piece features the virtuosic Raschèr Quartet who were such a hit last Season with their Philip Glass concerto performance. Your pre-concert talk for this programme features Sally Beamish in conversation with Scottish conductor Garry Walker.

Adventurer -
M
Ørk plays Hallgrímsson
Edinburgh Queens Hall - Thursday 10th April

Glasgow City Halls - Friday 11th April

Few new pieces are reviewed like Hallgr
ímmson's Cello Concerto:

"...a remarkable new addition to the cello repertoire...one of his finest works to date..."
(The Times)
"a work of haunting beauty..." (The Herald)

Performed in this concert by the same team that gave that first performance this is not to b e missed. All the more so as the concert also includes a new work by Stuart MacRae and Strauss's epiphanic Metamorphosen. In the pre-concert talk Haflidi Hallgrímmson and Stuart MacRae will talk about their work.
