Scrapers and Tooters

Orchestral music making for amateurs
Scrapers and Tooters: Photo, SCO Education

Now in its eighth year, the Scrapers and Tooters orchestra encapsulates the thrills and spills of the playing in an orchestra. Created to provide an opportunity for amateur musicians to learn from and perform alongside members of the SCO, the orchestra has already earned a reputation for dare-devil 'tempos' on the platform and the occasional blatant disregard for composers' dynamics.

The projects run over a whole weekend with the time divided between full orchestral rehearsals and sectional sessions led by musicians from the SCO.

Have you an old instrument in need of some care?

2007 - 2008 Season announced!

Next: Wind Farm Glasgow
Date: 1 & 2 Dec 2007

Venue: City Halls, Glasgow

Conductor: Spencer Down

An offshoot of the popular Scrapers & Tooters project, Wind Farm is a chance for more wind, brass and percussion players to get involved with music making!  Based on the S&T weekends, participants will rehearse as part of a large ensemble, and receive sectional coaching from SCO musicians.

Feedback from previous Scrapers & Tooters participants

“Thanks to Scrapers & Tooters I am now playing trumpet for Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, Peebles Orchestra, Falkirk Tryst Orchestra and will be 1st Offstage Trumpet with the Scottish Symphonia in Mahler's Eighth Symphony!”

“This is my third year of Scrapers & Tooters and it just keeps getting better! It's a wonderful idea and a wonderful experience. I'm just keeping everything crossed that I get a place next year again!”

“Thank you for all the fun and help but above all for letting us get a bit of understanding of music we have never played before! I go with a head full of new sounds and ideas!”

“Perfect for myself coming back to music after a lengthy absence, has really whetted the appetite!”

"Rekindled my love for playing"
