Venue change for two SCO concerts in Season 2008/09
Due to the ongoing necessary building work at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, we have moved two of our 2008/09 Season concerts to alternative venues. The performance of Mendelssohn's great choral work, Elijah on 29 January 2009 will now be performed in the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, while the concert featuring Beethoven's Seventh and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto has been moved to the Queen's Hall. Season 08/09 launch - Tickets on sale now!
The SCO has announced details of its 2008/09 Season of concerts throughout Scotland between October 2008 and May 2009, including performances in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Inverness, Perth, Dumfries and Ayr. New Season highlights include a major celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth, a meeting of Indian and Western classical music traditions in Samagam, and the continuation of the successful CL@SIX series of hour-long early evening concerts. Everyone's A Critic gets rolled out into schools
SCO Education and music critic Rowena Smith are currently working with five Edinburgh schools to encourage music criticism amongst pupils studying music. You can read the first batch of reviews here. Olari Elts appointed SCO Principal Guest Conductor
Young Estonian conductor Olari Elts has been appointed as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The distinct empathy between the young Estonian conductor and the SCO has been evident since their first performances together in April 2004, performing a programme of Baltic music including works by Elts’ countryman, Arvo Pärt.
